Very successful cataract workshop
Written by Jigme UrgyenThe last five days have been busy with patients undergoing the surgical procedure which restores their eye sight back to near normal for most. We have all been busy with setting up the accommodations and other things like generators, kitchen, recovery rooms, OT etc. in preparation to look after everyone who will be staying with us in the clinic.
On the first day around 80 people came to stay overnight, they went through surgery the following day and then to recovery. One the 2nd day around 120 people came, and on the 3rd day around 50 people. In total 220 people underwent the surgery and had their vision restored.
All the nuns and support staff were busy looking after everyone even throughout the night, as everyone had bandaged eyes and could not see properly they needed help and a strong arm to lean on. During the day everyone was busy with their respective station, helping in whatever way was necessary.
At the conclusion of the last batch of patients when everyone had their bandages removed and eyes checked, everyone was very happy and delighted at the achievement and shared in the joy that each patient felt at having a new perspective on life. One lady in particular was totally blind after her eye sight had gradually declined over the past 9 years. We were able to remove her bandages and she could see her son properly for the first time in 9 years, also His Holiness was there to greet her and give her His very great blessings.
Even though at the conclusion of the workshop, we all felt very tired and we still had several days of organization and cleanup to do, we all felt a very deep inner satisfaction and encouragement toward each other and tiredness and rest didn't matter.
It has been confirmed, but not sure when, that we can do this type of workshop again. We all look forward to being able to serve the community in this way again.
Here are some photos that we wanted to share with you all.
